Answered Prayer

I found this story as I was surfing the internet this morning. We’ve been seeing a lot of prayers answered lately … specific needs are being met … it is so good to see people’s faith increase. We are learning that whether the answer is “yes”, “no”, or “wait” God is looking out for what is best for us.

This answered prayer should go to the top of the list.

Dwight Nelson recently told a true story about the pastor of his church. He had a kitten that climbed up a tree in his backyard and then was afraid to come down. The pastor coaxed, offered warm milk, etc. The kitty would not come down. The tree was not sturdy enough to climb, so the pastor decided that if he tied a rope to his car and pulled it until the tree bent down, he could then reach up and get the kitten. That’s what he did, all the while checking his progress in the car. He then figured if he went just a little bit further, the tree would be bent sufficiently for him to reach the kitten. But as he moved the car a little further forward, the rope broke. The tree went ‘boing!’ and the kitten instantly sailed through the air – out of sight.

The pastor felt terrible. He walked all over the neighborhood asking people if they’d seen a little kitten.No. Nobody had seen a stray kitten. So he prayed, “Lord, I just commit this kitten to your keeping,” and went on about his business.

A few days later he was at the grocery store, and met one of his church members. He happened to look into her shopping cart and was amazed to see cat food. This woman was a cat hater and everyone knew it, so he asked her, “Why are you buying cat food when you hate cats so much?” She replied,”You won’t believe this,” and then told him how her little girl had been begging her for a cat, but she kept refusing.

Then a few days before, the child had begged again, so the Mom finally told her little girl, “Well, if God gives you a cat, I’ll let you keep it.” She told the pastor, “I watched my child go out in the yard, get on her knees, and ask God for a cat. And really, Pastor, you won’t believe this, but I saw it with my own eyes. A kitten suddenly came flying out of the blue sky, with its paws outspread, and landed right in front of her.”

  1. I love this story Paige….but I love more that prayers are being answered all around you. I have some prayers that I hope are answered very soon.

I HOPE THAT YOUR ANSWER IS AS OBVIOUS AS A CAT FALLING FROM THE SKY.

  2. I am all for prayers being answered that clearly! I have told God “God you are going to have to knock me in the head with this one. I don’t know what to do and you are really gonna have to make it obvious here”.

I love the way God has been working around us…I have never seen so many prayers answered. But ya know, I’ve never heard so many honest, from the heart, specific prayers prayed. Might be a connection, ya think?

WE USED TO ASK FOR A NOTE ON THE ICE BOX.

I BELIEVE YOU ARE RIGHT, THERE IS A CONNECTION. GOD HAS SHOWN ME THAT HE DOES NOT MIND … IN FACT, APPRECIATES THAT WE TRUST HIM ENOUGH TO BE SPECIFIC. I KNOW I WOULD PRAY A GENERAL PRAYER ALMOST LIKE I WAS HELPING HIM OUT … I COULD TWIST ANYTHING INTO AN ANSWER SO HE WOULD LOOK GOOD. OH MY! I CAN’T BELIEVE I EVER THOUGHT THAT HE COUDLN’T/WOULDN’T ANSWER THE REQUESTS OF HIS CHILDREN.

  3. I’d like to know who the common denominator is! 😉 Whoever it is has some serious clout!

Seriously though, I love how God is working in our group. He is making himself known in big ways! So now we just keep on bugging Him! The list is endless!

THAT COMMON DENOMINATOR IDEA HAS BEEN ON MY MIND SINCE I WAS A CHILD. WHEN WE WOULD PRAY FOR SOMEONE WHO WAS SICK … AND THEY DIDN’T GET WELL … I THOUGHT SOMEONE MIGHT NOT HAVE PRAYED. I THEN CONVINCED MYSELF THAT PRAYER DIDN’T REALLY CHANGE GOD IT JUST CHANGED OUR HEARTS. I’M GROWING IN MY FAITH, AND LEARNING THAT HE WANTS US TO REQUEST … IT SHOWS THAT WE TRUST HIM … HE DOES LISTEN.

  4. I was thinking too about prayers that have been answered for many of us that we didn’t even know we needed. Isn’t it incredible that our God knows what we need before we do and that he always provides. I love to think back to those kinds of answers. The Spirit speaking on our behalf when our hearts don’t know what to say!?! I love that! He knows us so well!

I HAVE THOUGHT, MORE THAN ONCE, GOD HAS ANSWERED SO MANY PRAYERS FOR US, IN OBVIOUS WAYS. I FEEL LIKE HE KNOWS THAT WE HAVE A BUNCH OF PEOPLE WHO REALLY NEED TO SEE SOME GOOD THINGS HAPPENING … WE NEED TO BUILD SOME FAITH … HE IS PROVIDING THE FOUNDATION FOR THAT.

AND YOU ARE RIGHT … HE ANSWERS THE PRAYERS THAT WE ARE NOT EVEN WILLING TO SPEAK OUT LOUD … OR THAT OUR HEARTS WON’T ALLOW US TO SPEAK. EVEN THE THINGS WE NEED THAT WE DON’T KNOW ABOUT ARE PROVIDED. HE TAKES SUCH GOOD CARE OF US. I JUST WISH I DIDN’T USUALLY HAVE TO SEE IT BY LOOKING BACK … I WANT TO SEE IT AS IT IS HAPPENING.

  5. I have had alot of prayers answered lately. From getting a good judge who saw the truth, to a new nephew, even answers to prayers where I directly asked God for a sign that things were going to be good with my kids…..A sign like Gideon asked for. It has been good to turn things over to God and prayer has a new meaning to me.

WHEN WE PRAY ACTUALLY KNOWING THAT GOD WILL ANSWER … WE KEEP OUR EYES OPEN AND ACTUALLY SEE IT. I’M SO GLAD HE’S SHOWING YOU THAT YOU’RE NOT ALONE.
