You’re on BASE! Take some time to catch your breath … you are safe.

Stuart and Mel McGuiggan

I haven’t seen them in at least 10 years maybe more, but I have never forgotten these two.

I knew Stuart during AIM … singing and smiling all the time. I don’t remember many times when he wasn’t excited about something. He was always the winner at Nerts because he used to work at a bank, and could move the cards with those fingers like nobody’s business.

I knew Mel, but we were not really close. We kind-of ran in different circles. But after we came back from the field, I got to know her better. I remember her having me in her home on more than oneĀ ocassion … always so hospitable, always an encouragement.

I would love to hear from Stu and Mel. I have no idea where you are living, what you are doing, I know you have at least one child, but that’s about it. I have such fond memories of you two and would love to hear what’s going on.

As for the rest of you … I’d love to hear some memories you have of these folks. I know they were an encouragement to many … let’s show them some encouragement in return.

  1. I love the McGuiggans!!!! They are so much fun! I was always impressed by their devotion to the Lord. They have set a wonderful example of what a marriage should look like. I LOVE the McGuiggans!!!!

Paige, thank you so much for putting my sister and brother-in-law in the hot seat. There are so many things that I could say about them – like how thankful I am that we all live in Wichita Falls now. We get to spend a lot of time together. Our kids are more like siblings than cousins. But the one thing that I want to say about Mel and Stuart is how much they bless me and anyone who is around them. I see how they live their every day lives. They strive to always make the choices in life that God guides them to make. And not just the big choices, but in the little every day choices as well. Anyone who is around them can see that. They are constantly encouraging me, even when they don’t realize that they are – just by daily giving their lives to God. I love them so much. During a very difficult time in my life, I did not appreciate the blessings that God has given me. I didn’t value my family. But I know realize that my family is one the biggest blessings that God has given me on this earth. I am thankful that I get to call Mel and Stuart my sister and brother-in-law, my friends and my brother and sister in Christ.

I’M SO GLAD THEY ARE THERE CLOSE SO YOU CAN REAP THE BENEFITS OF THEIR SPIRITS. I KNOW THEY MUST BE SUCH AN ENCOURAGEMENT TO THEM, AND I’M SURE YOU ENCOURAGE THEM AS WELL. TO HAVE YOUR CHILDREN GET THE CHANCE TO BE SO CLOSE IS A BLESSING. I’M THANKFUL FOR YOU ALL.

  3. My first summer back in Lubbock, Stuart needed a place to stay for a month and my roommate, Paul, was leaving for a month, thus Stuart landed at my apartment. It was really great getting to know him better but… and I’m not making this up… after he left, the little voice in my head spoke with an Irish accent. It kind of freaked me out.

The other day I needed to email Stuart about something I can’t even remember now. We ended up writing back and forth a few times that afternoon. Thought I have no idea now what we were talking about, I remember clearly the sense of comfort, encouragement and blessing I received from our communication. He’s got a gift at blessing whoever he’s in contact with.

And if I remember right, Mel was one of my first AIMers. Of course, I was a “mission term” assistant and thus worthy of no respect. And her team completely scared me. (I think she was the only one on the team that wasn’t older than me… and she was much prettier than me.) But anywho, do you remember the Seinfeld episode where the lady is telling Elaine that she doesn’t have grace and you can’t OBTAIN grace? Well, isn’t Meloni the picture of grace.

PICTURE OF GRACE … GOOD DESCRIPTION!!!

Well Stuart told me this was here and that i should make sure there were a few more comments made, there you go Stuart. Should i tell them about your favorite teddy bear????? (if stuart is reading this, I’m believing he will respond.)

IF STUART DOESN’T RESPOND YOU COULD TELL US ALL ABOUT THE TEDDY BEAR … I’M SURE HE WOULD LOVE IT.

  5. Love, love, love Stuart and Meloni!!

Met Stuart in Ireland and his HUGE smile and laugh is a sign of his HUGE heart. He is one of those people that can make you laugh till your side hurts then turn around, the next second, and have a deep, serious conversation.

One memory I have of Stuart is at Camp Shamrock…it is raining (we are in Ireland so of course it is raining..ha) and a group of us are trudging up the hill to go to the restroom….Stuart breaks out in song, “Singing in the rain…just singing in the rain….” We sang our way all the way up the hill.

Meloni I met when she came to Lubbock as an AIMer. As beautiful as she is outside….is nothing compared to what is inside. She has a way of making everyone she comes in contact feel special. She does the little things that others might overlook or not even think of at all. When you are talking to her she makes you feel like you are the only person in the world.

Stuart and Meloni….I love you guys and I know God has and is using you wherever He puts you. Would LOVE to see you guys again. Had NO idea you were in WF…we were there a few days around Christmas.

You guys need to post on here and let us all know how you are and share some family pics!!!

    RaDonna

WONDERFUL WONDERFUL CAMP SHAMROCK. I WILL NEVER FORGET THE SUMMER I GOT TO VISIT THE AIMERS THERE. SOCCER, OBSTACLE COURSES, SLIP & SLIDES (MORE SLIP THAN SLIDE HUH, SARAH?). RADONNA I’M GLAD THAT YOU ARE AMONG THE MANY THAT HAVE BEEN BLESSED BY THE WONDERFUL MCGUIGGAN SPIRIT.

  6. Thank you Paige for doing this! What an honor!!

Honestly, It’s overwhelming to read what everyone has written. Kind, kind words that mean so much to both Mel and I.

We are doing well living here in Wichita Falls. We have 3 kids – 2 girls and 1 boy (Devyn (7), Kayley (5) and Caiden (3) ) Mel gets to be a “family manager” staying at home with the kids and I get to work from home (and read books – I have a great job!!) I have gained so much respect for mothers who stay home – all that they have to deal with!! It is certainly the most important job in the world!!

Sarah, Paige, RaDonna – come see us anytime – we would love to have you in our home!

Tim – I’m always blessed to hear from you over the web. Let me know if you need more books to read.

Billy – keep your mouth shut or I’ll have to tell some stories on you!

Steph – you’ll always hold a special place in our hearts. You have walked a hard journey but have triumphed and made Christ your Victor. Others would have fallen and not gotten back up.

THANKS FOR THE PIC STUART … CAN’T BELIEVE YOUR CHILDREN ARE SO BIG. FUNNY … WHEN I READ YOUR COMMENT TO BILLY I COULD HEAR YOUR TONE OF VOICE … I MISS THAT.
